Rate Increases Approved for Con Ed Power Delivery
By Patrick McGeehan

Residents of New York City will see the biggest one-time rise in their bills for electric service next month, after state regulators approved a $425 million increase in rates for Con Edison on Wednesday.

I'm a Woodlawn resident and I've finally had it with Con Edison and their ridiculous rates.  I've switched my gas & electric to an ESCO (Energy Supply Company) called Ambit Energy.  And it looks like I've done it just in time too!  I'm guaranteed in writing to save money over Con Edison's rates.  I still get my Con Edison bill from Con Ed but at a cheaper rate.  There is no interruption in service and Con Edison still handles all repairs and outtages.  The only difference is my savings.  And Ambit offers some really great customer incentives like travel rewards for using the energy you already use!  There's no cost to switch.  And if you're not happy, you can always go back to Con Edison as your supplier.  Although I don't know why you'd want to!!

Thanks for the info - I was wondering about those alternatives to Con Ed - was worried I'd be switching from the devil I know, and getting some hidden charges, etc!  Glad to hear it worked out for you.

I hope you're still happy after your first few bills. Sometimes you have to pay the local utility company delivery charges on top of what you pay the new company. Please let us know if this is the case, OK?

Con Edison is still the delivery provider so I know that I will have to pay them for delivery.  BUT I will get a savings on the supply of energy.  I'll also be saving on the taxes portion of the bill.

And this company offers great incentives.  You earn points every month for energy consumption that you can use towards travel (similar to earning frequent flyer miles or credit card rewards points).  If you refer 5 friends/family you are also rewarded with airline tickets, cruises or vacations.  I already received a voucher for 3 days/2 nights hotel accomodations to various hotels across the country just for becoming a customer.

I have not received my first bill yet but I will keep you posted.  Very Happy
