Bronx 31 NYC Bus GLOBAL WARMING CONTRIBUTER
I was reading posts about Woodlawn on another forum and they were talking about the BX 31 bus running on Katonah Avenue. The people were saying the bus was contributing to global warming. The post says that during the school year the bus which runs more times then the BX 34 bus is causing traffic especially during the school year and considering no one is riding on that bus around Katonah Avenue all its doing is allowing carbon emissions to flow through the air. I do know that at least on Katonah Avenue NO ONE IS EVER ON THE BX31 bus and I do know as the BX 31 bus travels along Katonah Avenue all this bus is doing is causing traffic which as you all know to much traffic causes pollution.
I read that this bus goes to Lady of Mercy Hospital and the NYC #2 train but again NO ONE IS EVER ON IT. The post on the othe forum gave the Senator Jeff Kleins office number (718) 822-2049 to call him to stop running the BX 31 through Katonah Avenue.
I will say one thing if NO ONE IS ON THIS BUS AND ALL ITS DOING IS CAUSING TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION ON KATONAH AVENUE THAN THIS BUS SHOULD STOP RUNNING ON KATONAH AVENUE.
The Bx31 doesn't have any riders on it. Why should we allow this bus to run on Katonah Avenue and pollute our planet?

 Get your facts straight
First of all, if the bus does not run on Katonah Ave, it will run on a different avenue, hence no less global warming.
Second, there are several students who attend PS19 who ride that bus daily throughout the school year. Do you not see them?
Third, there are several students from Woodlawn who ride that bus to commute to their High School. Do you see them either?
Fourth, the bus stop in front of the liquor store on Katonah Ave is a transfer point for people connecting to the 31 from the 34 and vice versa.
The reason for the congestion on Katonah Ave is lazy parents and parents who live in Yonkers driving their kids to and from PS19. It has nothing to do with the 31 bus. If their were no double parked cars and no cars parked in the bus stop, the 31 would not affect the traffic running on Katonah Ave.

First of all this is a post I read and it is basically right. The idea behind the BX31 was for the residents of Woodlawn, and THE POST IS ABOUT NO ONE BEING ON THAT BUS ITS NOT HELPING ANYONE IN WOODLAWN. AT LEAST IT WOULD HELP MORE MUCH MORE PEOPLE OUT IF THE BX31 RAN ON A DIFFERENT ROUTE, BUT RUNNING ON KATONAH AVENUE WITHOUT PASSENGERS ALL THE BX31 BUS IS DOING IS ADDING CARBON EMISSIONS. NO ONE IN WOODLAWN USES THE BX 31. ITS ONE THING IF A GOOD AMOUNT OF PEOPLE USED THE BX31 BUS BUT NO ONE FROM OUR AREA DOES AND ALL ITS DOING IS POLLUTING OUR ENVIORMENT. IF IT RAN ON A DIFFERENT ROUTE IT WOULD AT LEAST HELP OUT PEOPLE NOT JUST THROW CARBON EMISSIONS IN OUR AIR.
Again no one rides the BX 31 bus. The people by the liquor store are USUALLY WAITING FOR THE BX 34 Bus. A very very slim amount of people ride the BX 31 bus.
ALL ITS DOING IS POLLUTING OUR AIR AND PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO TAKE THERE KIDS TO SCHOOL ESPECIALLY PARENTS WHO WORK. I ONLY WISH THEY HAD HYBRID CARS AND THE BX31 IS NOT A HYBRID BUS.
The basic point is the BX31 bus is not being used unlike the BX34 bus, what is the point of the BX31 bus anyway. No one is ever even on it, and it was meant to get to lady of Mercy hospital, but no one is riding on it.
IF NO ONE BARELY EVER USES THAT BUS IN THIS COMMUNITY AND ALL THAT BUS IS DOING IS CAUSING TRAFFIC WHICH IS NOT HELPING PEOPLE ONLY ADDING CARBON EMISSIONS THEN THAT BUS IS BASICALLY USELESS.

In reply to the recent post in favor of the BX 31 bus running along Katonah Avenue, you must be kidding. I walk along Katonah Avenue several times during the day and evening and hardly ever see anyone using the bus along Katonah Avenue. With the continuing rise in gas prices, it makes virtually no sense for the MTA to continue this route with the amount of revenue it generates from the rare occasional person who rides it. The double parked cars, which you claim come from the lazy mothers dropping off their kids, does not cause the congestion during the rest of the day. For every BX 34 bus that goes along Katonah Avenue, which I might add is greatly used to either connect to the #4 train, the D train and to Fordham Road, there follows 2 BX 31 buses empty. Now that the schools are closed for the summer, there are no LAZY mothers, as you so claim, double parking their cars to let off their children to PS 19. So, what benefit does these buses serve? They are generating no income to compensate for the escalating cost of gas and, as the other post indicated, polluting the air qualityof Woodlawn with their noxious emissions. Get with the program. We are in a crisis with global warming destroying our planet. I suppose you want to be breathing in all these emissions. The BX 31 bus needs to leave Katonah Avenue and reroute itself along Webster Avenue, where it originated from.

The BX 31 bus needs to leave Katonah Avenue and reroute itself along Webster Avenue, where it originated from. Obviously, you do not live on Webster Avenue! Oh, that's right, you've got a great idea -- send more conjestion and pollution back onto Webster Avenue and right into the windows of the apartment complexes.
Also, to all those posting to this thread -- contact the MTA, write letters and let them know your thoughts.

 OH the ignorance!
Is there any reason that there should be less carbon emissions on Katonah Avenue and more on Webster Ave? Last time I checked, those on Webster were as much a part of Woodlawn as those on Katonah Ave. And how the hell would that affect global warming? If the pollution were limited to Webster Ave and points East, would that lessen global warming? What grade education do you have? To talk about global warming and refer to one bus is obviously moronic, and I would feel embarrassed if I made comments like that unless I had a 3rd grade education. I would recommend you go back to school, but I am afraid that your driving to and from college would cause too much of a global warming problem.
I ride the 31. I live in Woodlawn. I know several others who ride it also. Maybe we should all stop riding the bus and use individual cars to stop the bus from polluting our air.
By the way, global warming is just that, GLOBAL. Are the ice caps melting because of the pollutants put into the air from Antarctica? It is a world wide problem, not a Katonah Avenue problem.
I will contact the MTA. I hope other posters do also. I'm sure they will take you seriously, I mean now that they know the solution to global warming is to reroute the 31 back to Webster.

Evidentally, the overall problem with the BX 31 bus running along Katonah Avenue is the frequency of its run. There is absolutely no reason that for every one BX 34 bus, which is utilized fully, should there be two and, at times, three BX 31 buses running along Katonah Avenue one right after another. To the post who selfishly is only concerned about the BX 31 polluting Webster Avenue, where he/she resides, you should also be concerned about global warming coming from gas emissions due to the frequency of the BX 31 buses runs. It is easy to cast judgment on a person's intelligence and level of education, but that only comes from someone who cannot justify their comments without trying to comment negatively on someone else. Sounds like you were the bully in school that only knew how to defend themself by name calling. The BX 31 bus is a problem for all of Woodlawn, regardless of what street you reside on.

Woodlawn resident, I've seen what gets off that bus at 234th and no thanks. Try listening to double the buses going by all the time.
