Post Woodlawn Restaurants
Can anybody tell me a really good place to eat in Woodlawn? I've beeen to 2 of the most popular, Rory Dolan's and The Rambling House, and was really disappointed with both (great place to go for drinks, though).

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

Neither of those restaurants is anything special, but there isn't anything great in Woodlawn.  Burkes on Bronx River Road is good though it's awhile since I've been.

The food in both the ram and rory's isn't nice, altho the atmosphere is great.
Burkes on the bronx river road has great food, the steak is to die for, but the service is bad,
Tombolinos in yonkers is great, good food and serive, but if ya want to stey in woodlawn my suggestion would be go to Eileens, its cozy

One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Valentino's on Bronx River Road.  They serve authentic Italian dishes.  The food is amazing and reasonably priced.  The tables are somewhat cramped but it's still worth the trip.

Have you been to Eileen's Country Kitchen on McLean?  They serve great breakfast and don't leave without a loaf of freshly baked bread.
I can't believe you were disappointed with Rory Dolan's, the thought of their lamb stew keeps me up at night.

Post Food
The food at Rambling House and Rory's tastes like cardboard after a few visits.  Maybe I'm just sick of the same dishes.  The River's Edge has great food.  And how about the new Japanese-Mexican place Oshima on McLean and Glover? It was packed this weekend.

I ate from Oshima yesterday, its opening day.  The Mexican part of the menu is exactly like the Fresco tortilla joints in Manhattan.  Cheap and tasty.  I like the steak and guacamole tortillas best.  Haven't tried the Japanese side of the menu.  I'm a little leary of sushi from a taco joint -- but I'm sure I'll get there!

I hope this place makes it -- McLean sure could use a little variety.

Isn't it the other way around though?  I thought Oshima was a Sushi joint that also served tacos?  I do like the interior though, they even seem to have a sushi bar along the back wall.  I haven't tried any of the food yet, but I did take a look around inside when I picked up the menu.

Okay I've been back two more times and have no complaints about the food.  It's a little chaotic at the counter, but hopefully that will get better as they settle in.  In the meantime, count your change and check they got your order correct.

Yeah I went there for lunch.  Its pretty good.  I was hoping that the people running the place would be Korean, but they aren't.  They're Cantonese.

It is still good food though.  The lunch specials are pretty decently priced.

We were eagerly waiting for Oshima to open, and are so glad it's busy - we really do need some variety for the area.  And it really is just like the Fresh Tortillas in the city - my husband even calls it that (he's actually unnaturally obsessed with the places, and loves them!).  We've been very happy with our meals from there so far.

I liked the Subway on Katonah.
Good Food , Good Prices- $5.00 Sandwiches
The people were really nice.
They said they'll have free coffee soon, and Lattes, Expressos.
I was impressed.    Smile     Very Happy

Yeah Subway seems pretty nice, but this place is pretty typical for a subway restaurant.  I've been to a couple in Westcehster, and they all pretty much seem the same.

My only complain about the subway on Katonah is that they seem to overcook/burn the white bread a little bit.  It doesn't affect the taste that I have noticed, but the bread seems a little bit darker in comparison to what you receive at other Subway locations.

Other than that seems like a nice place.  I pick up a sandwich there every once in a while.

Have you tried the 'Clairmont Diner' on Yonkers Avenue?  It's away from Woodlawn but worth the trip as the food is great; servings are huge; service is friendly and value is great!  In addition, they have a parking lot right next to the restaurant so you don't have to worry about searching for parking or dealing with parking meters.

The Corner Scone on 236th and Webster has really good food.  http://cornerscone.com/
It is not large nor fancy.  Everything I've had there has been tasty and high quality.
