Letter to sent to webmaster:
July 20th, 2007
Dear Friend,
For a number of years, the St. Patrick’s Day 5K run/walk was a staple on the Woodlawn area calendar.
As a St. Barnabas Elementary School graduate and 25-year resident of the area, I always looked forward to this event as a social and competitive highlight to my year. Unfortunately, 1997 was the last year that Woodlawn has hosted such an event. I am happy now to announce that Woodlawn will now have another road race, with an even greater mission – the “Woodlawn Run for a Cause.”
I am inviting you to invest in what we hope to be an enjoyable and annual event that will be great for the community as a whole, on Saturday, September 15, 2007. I would love your support as a sponsor to help pay for the cost of the race (t-shirts, water, trophies, etc). The bulk of the proceeds, however, will go to The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund®. This cause is the driving motivation behind reviving this event. Families of Freedom was created to provide education assistance for post-secondary study to dependents — children and spouses — of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and during the rescue activities relating to those attacks.
The race will start at the Woodlawn bus station at 10:00am and will finish at Indian Field. The goal is to make this an annual event, as the St. Patrick’s Day run used to be a few years ago. We anticipate having approximately 150 participants in the race. I have also enclosed a flyer for the race - if you could post this in your business, it would be deeply appreciated. I would love to have a significant number of local participants to show off their Woodlawn/McLean Heights pride!
Please complete the bottom portion of this letter and return it to me in the self-addressed stamped envelope provided, with your tax-deductible contribution payable to “Woodlawn Run for a Cause.” In lieu of monetary gifts, we can also accept water, raffle prizes or breakfast foods for race day. All companies/individuals who are able to contribute at least $100 prior to August 25 will be showcased on the race T-shirt.
If you have any questions about the event or sponsorship commitment, please feel free to call me at 914-433-0926. And of course, if you know of anyone else that may want to contribute or participate, please feel free to spread the word! Thanks so much for your support!
Sincerely,
Christopher Ellis
