 Beetz Florist
Yes, I remember well the green house on East 233 St. and Napier Avenue. I can remember back in 1950 when Mr. and Mrs. Beetz owned the florist. They had one daughter. They were the wholesale florist for orchids which they grew in their greenhouses. They made beautiful corsages for Mother's Day and special occasions. High school girls would also go there to get special birthday corsages too. Depending upon your age they might be made of candies, dog bones, and sugar cubes. I forgot the daughter's name but I saw her about 10 years ago and she lives in Connecticut. She used to take care of the graves (land, grass, shrubs, etc. around the grave) in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family lived in the house all the way back from the store and they sold their flowers in the little store next to the greenhouse. They were more greenhouses further down the hill but they have been destroyed after many years of neglect. The land is still vacant but I noticed a partial fence around the outside. Wondering if maybe she sold some land.
